African printer market sales continued to grow in the third quarter of 2016
Recently, IDC, the international data company, released an analysis report for the third quarter of 2016 of the African Print Peripheral Market (HCP). The report shows that although the printer shipments in this market showed a year-on-year decline in the third quarter, sales continued to grow steadily.
Affected by the economic downturn in Africa, shipments of African printers fell to 470,308 units in the third quarter, down about 6.5%. However, driven by the strong development of inkjet printers, the overall sales of the African printer market increased by 4.7% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2016, which was approximately US$19,609 (approximately RMB 136,331).
In the third quarter, shipments of laser printers in Africa decreased by 4.9% year-on-year to approximately 251,247 units, while sales of laser printers in Africa increased by 3.2% year-on-year to US$166 million (approximately RMB 1.154 billion). In addition, thanks to the continued growth in demand for laser printers by government and private companies, sales growth of A3 laser printers has become a major factor driving the overall sales growth of laser printers in Africa.
Although printer shipments in the 70-90ppm and 91ppm+ ranges continue to decrease in South Africa, these two market segments are also important factors in the overall sales growth in the African market.
With the continuous updating of printing technology, the African dot matrix printer market (SDM) showed a significant downward trend in the third quarter of 2016. The shipment of dot matrix printers decreased to 9,973 units, a decrease of 27% year-on-year. The amount was 4.7 million US dollars (about 326.77 million yuan), a year-on-year decline of 39.8%.
Roberto Alunni, Research Manager, Imaging, Printing and Document Solutions, IDC Middle East, Africa and Turkey, said, "In the third quarter, laser printer shipments fell sharply due to the re-adjustment of printing needs in major markets such as South Africa and Nigeria. Algeria And the strong growth of color laser printers in Tunisia has made up for this loss. Most of the sales in the African printer market come from entry-level printing equipment (selling less than 695 yuan), and mid-range printers with high demand from SOHO and small businesses. Sales (selling around 695 yuan - 2,086 yuan) accounted for almost half of the total sales of the inkjet printer market."
In the third quarter of 2016, HP continued to dominate the African printer market, with printer shipments and sales accounting for more than 60% of the market.
