How to use fonts in various image processing software
Notes on the use of text in Photoshop
1. The choice of font size
Try to use fonts such as boldface, medium circle, and Lishu with larger font sizes, and rarely use slender fonts such as Songdi and Songti. And the font size is generally not less than 10pt font size. If the font size is too small or the font is too thin, if the text is finally saved as TIF, the text exists as a dot matrix image, not a vector image. The edges of the text in the final printed matter will feel burrs, which greatly affects the visual effect of the printed matter. Of course, if you need some small characters as embellishment, background, etc. in the design, you do n’t need to be very clear about the part of the text, you can ignore these factors.
Second, if the text needs black, then this black should be set to K = 100%, do not use Photoshop's default four-color black. (Note: When making inkjet and photo drafts, because the final output format is printing, in order to prevent the black ink from being deep enough, you need to use Photoshop's default four-color black.)
3. If black text is needed on a color basemap or color gradient or color block, you need to change the black text layer blending mode to "positive overlay" to prevent the C, M, and Y color versions from hollowing out.
If you need color text such as M = 60%, Y = 100%, or grayscale text such as K = 30%, do not use the mixed option of positive overlay, just follow the normal options.
The text layer in Photoshop is vectorized, and you can zoom in and out without affecting the quality before merging the layers. If it is finally saved in TIF format, the text layer no longer exists, and the vector text becomes a bitmap. If you do not want to give up the vector nature of the text layer, you can save the vector data of the text and shape layer by saving the EPS file format.
Regardless of whether you use text in vector software or typesetting software, it is generally not recommended to use the default fonts such as Song, Hei, Lishu, etc. in the WINDOWS system. If it is a MAC system, avoid using default fonts such as BeiJing. These fonts are used in different software, it is easy to cause the phenomenon of missing characters or wrong characters. It is recommended to use common fonts such as Hanyi and Founder.
Notes on using text in CorelDraw
1. When making prints, use text in the CD, whether it is in the form of artistic characters or text box, the text color must be CMYK color, and PANTONE color can only be used when spot colors are needed.
Second, the text in the CD can be directly shadowed, transparent and other effects, but the visual effect of this is relatively stiff, and it feels less natural than the effect done in PS. If it is not necessary to use a CD for effects, it is generally recommended that after the PS completes the required text or image effects, it is saved as TIF, PSD and other image formats and then imported into the CD for use.
3. CD is a vector software. This facilitates the selection of fonts and font sizes, without worrying about the loss of the smoothness of the edges of the text, so the text can be small and it will not have too much impact on the printing quality.
Of course, when using inverse characters on the body part or mixed background, the font should use bold, medium (quasi) round and other fonts, and avoid using fonts with very thin strokes such as imitating Song and thin lines. Overcrowded fonts such as thick black and extra thick song should also be avoided to avoid printing paste. The font size selection also needs to be appropriately large, generally not less than 7 pounds. (8 pounds is the sixth size)
There is no need to consider whether black is overprinted when designing and making with CD. Although the CD provides functions such as "overprinting filling" and "overprinting outline", this is mainly used for color separation directly in the CD.
4. On the CD, when all the text is typeset and the design work is completed, the text must be converted to a curve before final output. If there are multiple pages, each page must turn to a curve. [next]
Precautions for using text in Illustuator
AI, like CD, is vector software, so in general, the requirements for text are similar to CD, but you need to pay attention to the overprinting of black text. In AI, there are two methods for overprinting black fills or outlines. Through manual adjustment, similar to the practice in PS.
1. You can do it by "Multiply Multiply" in the "Transparency" panel. The principle is the same as the positive multiply in PS.
Second, through the "Overprint Overprint Fill" in the "Attributes" panel to complete, which is the same as the "Overprint Fill" in the CD.
After the typesetting in AI is completed, it is also necessary to transfer all the text to the path (equivalent to CD to curve). AI is not like CD can divide many pages, but you can make each layout through the layer method, so when there is When there are multiple layers, the text in each layer must be transferred to the path. The reason is the same as the CD transfer curve to avoid incompatible fonts.
Precautions for using the text in FreeHand
FreeHand's overprinting in the use of text is very important, because the overprinting method can avoid the problem of overprinting white borders caused by inaccurate overprinting, especially the small black text, the general text is less than the black text below 14pt.
Select the text, open the object panel in the property panel, select the fill of the text block, and select the overprint option below.
When using Chinese fonts, do not use bold, italic, bold italic, etc. in the font. Because in the actual output, the font added with these fonts will appear slurred or overlapping aliasing.
Once you have made an effect for the text, please do not turn the text into a curve. Because after turning the curve, the text will lose its effect. At the same time, do not include empty text blocks or empty nodes in the same text block, otherwise RIPI can not be interpreted normally.
Use of text in PageMaker
PageMaker is different from vector software in that it cannot transfer text to a path. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the font selection of the text, which should be the same as the font used by the plate-making company. If you must use some special fonts, then when copying the PageMaker file to the plate-making company, copy the special fonts used in it to the disk, and then open the PM file after installing the special fonts in the plate-making company.
In PageMaker, if there are multiple text blocks in groups, no matter how the group size changes, the font size of the text will not be scaled accordingly. Especially when the group is reduced, pay special attention to whether the text is lost after the text block is reduced.
