Screen Proofing Apple LCD Screen (I)

Apple LCD and Screen Proofing The central theme in today's design and printing industry is the digital workflow. The key to a fully digital workflow is the digitization and integration of the entire process from input, production and output. For example, digital proofing and direct plate printing have been increasingly used. Throughout the process, screen proofing is aimed at the most widely used prepress production. It means that color proofs can be printed on the screen without the need for proofing, thereby saving the printing professional a lot of time and money. Internationally, in January 2003, the first screen proofing system certified by SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) was produced. The SWOP-certified screen proofing system uses an Apple Cinema Display or Apple Cinema HD Display and a PowerMac G4 running Mac OSX 10.2 (Jaguar). Apple Computer's LCD screen was chosen because it is the only flat-panel display that meets professional requirements to match the brightness and color range required for screen proofing. It is the same as paper proofing in brightness and feel.
Professional color quality Many users have misunderstandings about the LCD screen of Apple. They often think that the LCD screen is too bright, which is inconsistent with the printing effect; or from other LCD experience, they think that viewing the LCD screen from different angles, its Inconsistent colors, etc. However, I believe that if users really understand the advanced technology of Apple Computer's LCD screen and can experience it for themselves, these concerns will be dispelled.
For design print users, color quality is a very important factor - it will have a great impact on their work. From a traditional point of view, CRT displays have become an important part of color correction systems that are ultimately used in printing. Therefore, Apple Computer LCD screens must produce the same or better results in these applications that emphasize color quality in order to be recognized by print design professionals.
How can we produce better color display? The monitor must be able to display a wide range of colors and must always be consistent from side to side - wherever it is located. In short, it must provide accurate, stable and consistent colors. Apple Computer took the lead in adopting the all-digital flat panel display in 2001, and made LCD technology to provide professional users with better color processing solutions.
1. Color Range At the beginning of this century, the scientists of the "Commission International de l'Eclairage (CIE)" developed a set of coordinate systems that classify the color world. In theory, based on this system, each color we see can use the (x,y) coordinates to describe the red, green, and blue components. Through further processing, each color-reducing device can also be described based on the (x,y) values of its red, green, and blue colors. The total number of colors defined by this two-dimensional (x,y) coordinate is often referred to as the "color range" of the device.
Is the current color range of Apple Computer's LCD screens as wide as CRT monitors? The answer is yes. By drawing red, green, and blue (x, y) values, it can be shown that the color range of Apple Computer's LCD screen is the same as the color range of CRT monitors. In other words, there is no loss in the total number of colors available using the Apple LCD display. (To be continued)
