Plastic box instead of glass bottle used for wine packaging before packing

In general, the procedure for the birth of a bottle of wine is such that after the brewing is completed, the filling is done in a winery in Italy or New Zealand. Subsequently, 9 liters (18 pounds) of glass bottled wine was transported to various locations for distribution. 9 liters of wine and glass bottles form a 40-pound large box.

A company based in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, hopes to change this situation. Matthew Cain is the founder and president of the Yellow+Blue (Y+B) wine company. He believes that using glass bottles of beer is a very old way, "I hope to find a solution for the 21st century." The use of glass bottles of wine is the golden rule of the wine cellar era, but now in the U.S. market, people on the red wine Consumption is often within a few hours of purchase rather than the past few weeks or even years.

After the wine began to enter the fast-food era, Gein launched a glass bottle replacement in 2008. He selects the best wines from the organic vineyards in the world's best producing areas, and transports them to North America throughout the entire year. Compared to the more common shipping methods such as plastic containers, the cost has increased by 40%. However, the advantage is that the temperature of the wine is maintained during the delivery, so as to ensure its taste and quality. Gein further analyzed that this greatly reduced the carbon emissions from transportation. "We conducted monitoring and reduced the carbon emissions by 50% compared to the same period of last year."

After Y+B arrived in North America with environmentally friendly wine, it was distributed into cartons.

Gein recalls, “When we released the company’s first wine product in May 2008, everyone thought I was crazy. This kind of expensive French red wine, so high-end wine, was put on paper by me. In the box, however, I stood up to the pressure, because we use this kind of packaging not as a gimmick but as a hope to make a real difference in protecting the environment."

Y+B's boxed wine has already won the welcome of many large retailers. The price of about US$10.99 per bottle has attracted many wine enthusiasts, and its sales in major top restaurants in the United States are also very alarming. In 2008, the company sold 7,000 cases, and by 2010, it had increased to 25,000 cases. Gein expects to reach 35,000 cases by the end of this year. Although the dealers in about 20 countries around the world have business dealings with him, Gein believes that the current major market is still the United States. He hopes that by the end of 2013, it will be able to achieve the sales target of 100,000 boxes.

Y+B's organic and environmentally friendly business philosophy may be able to add new ideas to the green economy.
