PSCAD X4 power system simulation software
In 2010, Manitoba HVRC Research Centre officially released the PSCAD X4 version!
Our software development department has taken another extremely important step in the development of PSCAD software. At the same time, in order to make users familiar with the operating interface environment, we try to make the appearance close to the latest version, and the function has been greatly improved to meet the needs of powerful modern construction. All this is reflected in the latest PSCAD X4.
In the past decade, it has become a trend to use compatible software to separate data in different formats instead of manually operating or converting data formats between incompatible software. It is this demand that has prompted some internal architecture changes in PSCAD. In the past, we regarded simulation as the core of a data center rather than a computing engine. Now PSCAD runs entirely on the basis of a centralized database, that is, read and write all recorded information from a single resource and keep the project organized. This structural change is absolutely necessary to facilitate communication between different systems, and it also designs a commonly used information database for the result data. Therefore, the difficulty of operating the software is further reduced, and users are more comfortable to use. In addition, the new software architecture makes function implementation and innovation more efficient. For example, the X4 version includes an advanced full-page copy and paste module, including in-page pages, pictures, and control elements.
The copy and paste function of the page model is just like the user's left and right arms, and is given a new mission. Now PSCAD X4 users will think about how to start a project from a very simple to fully and effectively use this function of PSCAD. The function of the multi-instance model is to take advantage of the repetitiveness of the system. In other words, first determine which connections (such as a string of transistors) are repeated at the bottom layer, and integrate them into the page model, and move up from here until the top layer. Make full use of the copy function. The main reason is that although a page model can be copied and pasted multiple times, only one page model definition needs to be compiled, so the more you copy, the faster your compilation efficiency will become. In addition, the preparation efficiency of the calculation preparation simulation case has also been greatly improved. Taking advantage of the repetitiveness of the case reduces the time required to create the case, and also reduces the chance of having to manually write a copy and make mistakes.
PSCAD X4 has many structural and functional updates, which is what many users have always expected. The X4 version is the first step of the PSCAD software to a new development. Soon you will be able to import PSCAD V4.1.x or 4.2.x files into the X4 version.

Multi-instance model (MIM): The new construction model allows us to view the page model component as a commonly used component.
The page model can be copied and pasted, or it can be used as an example or a unique new definition and link. In addition, the page model can also input parameters, which can be used to transform the data into the page model in conjunction with the graphical interface.
EMTDC memory management: The way EMTDC uses memory in large network subsystems has also changed a lot. Now EMTDC can dynamically allocate memory according to the needs of each subsystem, instead of relying on the memory requirements of the largest subsystem. This means that a lot of memory can be saved, especially when the system contains many subsystems.
No need to be compatible with Fortran 77: The free compiler provided by the previous version of PSCAD is based on Fortran 77. It has now been replaced with a more advanced version of the GFortran 95 compiler. This means that users no longer need to obtain Fortran 77 modern codes when using PSCAD X4.
New Master Library model: Many new models have been added to the master library, and there are many updates and improvements to existing models. Among the more important new models are:

Line constant project improvements: includes some of the following major improvements:
a. DC Correction: Two unique DC correction algorithms are added to ensure the accuracy of DC parameters during time-domain simulation.
b. Unique ground wire of overhead wire tower: If there are two ground wires on a wire tower, they can input their own parameters.
c. Eliminate the special conductor layer in the cable: the user can freely choose which conductor to eliminate (not only the outer layer).
