Technical Discussion on Solving Difficulties in Printing Aluminum Foil

At present, the use of lithographic offset press and resin (fast solid light) offset printing ink for aluminum foil printing, has quietly risen in the printing industry.
The unique charm and novel printing effect of aluminum foil packaging make the cosmetic boxes, gift boxes, high-grade tobacco and wine packaging boxes and other high-grade articles printed with aluminum foil papers, which also increase the value of the goods.
Under the fierce competition in the market, the display of a brand new package is undoubtedly the best choice for customers as long as they have the conditions. In addition, due to the inherent metallic luster and metallic color of aluminum foil, it is not necessary to print gold, silver ink or hot stamping anodized aluminum to “make-up and decorate” the printed matter. Only a well-designed artwork and clever use of ink color can be obtained. Colorful print effect. This is also unmatched by any paper product printing.
However, for the moment, the use of offset printing machines for printing aluminum foil items has certain difficulties in application technology. In fact, regardless of any printing process or printed item, it is impossible to be perfect. Although some problems can hardly be avoided in the printing process, the defects that affect the printing quality and economic efficiency cannot be ignored. In general, the difficulty is mainly due to sticky and dry prints. Then, how can Zinc Licensing eliminate aluminum foil and overcome these two difficulties? Worth exploring.
The basic concept of aluminum foil
Aluminum foil, commonly known as "gold cardboard, gold foil, metal foil." The term “steel fine paper, steel paper, aluminum paper” is essentially aluminum foil.
The so-called foil, in terms of metal material, refers to a specially processed metal foil. The thickness of this foil is 0.2 mm or less. Since the metal materials used for foil making are different, in order to show their properties, gold, silver, tin, nickel, aluminum, etc. are added before the foil words to show differences.
There are two methods for producing aluminum foil. One is a composite method in which aluminum foil and paper are glued and rolled together. The other is that aluminum foil is plated on the paper surface by vacuum aluminum plating. However, regardless of the method used to produce the name of the foil, the surface layer is aluminum foil, and paper is only its susceptor.
Printability of aluminum foil
It is very important for the printer to understand the meaning of printability, but because of different opinions, the interpretation of printability also has its own emphasis. To sum up, the main purpose of printability is to adjust the nature, function, and mode of use of materials, production conditions, and printing processes used in the printing process. Its purpose is to improve the quality of printed products and operating efficiency.
The printability of aluminum foil is rather special because it is a composite of aluminum foil and paper, and its surface aluminum foil or aluminum foil has a metallic luster, a tough texture, and a smooth surface. In the printing process, the surface properties of the aluminum foil are directly related to the printability of the printing press, ink, and the like. Therefore, relatively speaking, the printability of aluminum foil is actually the printability of aluminum foil.
1. The surface strength of aluminum foil is very high, it can adapt to the speed of high-speed printing presses, and it can also produce the pulling force with the increment of ink stickiness. It has good adaptability to improve the production efficiency and stabilize the printing quality.
2. The smoothness of aluminum foil is high, which is conducive to the transfer of ink. The imprinted ink film is flat, clean, text, and clear.
3. Aluminum foil structure is tight, there is no gap, and its surface is similar to the mirror effect. Therefore, it does not have absorption properties like paper.
4. During the printing process of aluminum foil paper, it is sometimes found that fine oil is distributed in the ink layer in the field printing, and the larger one can be seen by the naked eye, and the tiny one needs to be observed with a magnifying glass. Although this drawback has no major obstacles, it also has an impact on the quality of print in the field, the integrity of outlets, and the clarity of the artwork. Why do you have this disadvantage? The root cause lies in the fact that residual grease in the production of aluminum foil is in trouble. Therefore, the remaining grease must be removed before printing to improve the printability of aluminum foil.
5. The curling problem of aluminum foil is caused by the difference in physical properties between the material structures. Aluminum foil has high strength, high density, good stability, and is not easy to expand and contract; the paper has low strength, relatively small density, and poor stability and is easy to expand and contract. The properties of aluminum foil and paper are very different. These two kinds of materials with different properties are compounded by the curling factor. However, this is only its intrinsic factor. Generally, it will not curl when it is suitable for its conditions, but the ambient temperature and humidity will change, and in inappropriate conditions, aluminum foil will be induced to curl.
Printability of ink
The printability of the ink derives from its inherent structure and its inherent physical and chemical properties. However, in the application process, it must be confirmed by the entire journey on the printing press, the comprehensive drying process on the substrate, and the verification of the print quality. Of course, the printability of the ink is not isolated, and it is reflected in the coordination of printing presses, printing materials, and other conditions.
The suitability of the ink in the press stroke is not discussed in this paper. The focus is on the fixing of the ink on the aluminum foil paper (ink initial drying), because it involves two key issues of stickiness and dryness of the printed product.
In a nutshell, infiltration is the basis for the fixation of the ink on the substrate; the fixation speed is the condition for the ink layer to dry in the medium term; the medium-term drying time is the key to the quality of the ink layer conjunctiva.
1. Infiltration is the basis of fixation. Resin-based medium and high-grade offset printing inks are mainly composed of resin, dry vegetable oil and ink oil. Among them, the resin is a high-viscosity phase in which it is dissolved in a dry vegetable oil; the ink oil is a low-viscosity phase, and the miscible (not true-soluble) state is equal to a high viscosity. Since the effect of the ink oil is only to dilute and reduce the viscosity of the front phase, the ink is adapted for use on the printing press. Therefore, when the ink has completed its "mission" (the moment when the ink is printed on the substrate), it must be left immediately. The ink system will leave as fast as possible. This is the prerequisite for ink fixation—penetration.
2. The fixing speed is the condition of the ink layer drying in the middle period. The fixing speed is mainly determined by the instantaneous penetration of the ink oil miscible in the ink system on the substrate. The greater the instantaneous penetration, the faster the separation of the high and low two-phase viscosities in the ink, the sharper increase in the high-viscosity component concentration of the resin and the dry vegetable oil, and the instantaneous physical change that causes the ink layer to form a gelled state and fix it in the printing Things. Whether the high and low phases can be completely separated not only determines the fixing speed of the ink layer, but also relates to the medium-drying time of the ink layer.
3. The medium-term drying time is the key to the quality of the ink layer conjunctiva. The so-called medium-drying time refers to the intermediate stage of the ink layer from the fixation to the conjunctiva. The time is about 3 hours. The phenomenon is similar to the conjunctival matter state, and there is a smooth and smooth feeling, but it cannot be rubbed hard. At this level of medium-term drying, it is known that the "solvent" completely escapes from the system, and that the dry vegetable oil has undergone oxygen-absorbing polymerization and gradually changes to the gel-solidified state, and finally reaches the complete drying of the conjunctiva. This is the key to benign conjunctiva.
4. Obviously, in order to infiltrate, there must be substrates with absorption properties. However, the aluminum foil on the surface of aluminum foil does not have such conditions.
Absorption of aluminum foil, whether it is the use of offset ink, or "special" ink, aluminum foil remains in the liquid solvent. This kind of ink layer is not only the main factor in the stickiness of the printed product, but also the source of poor dryness. Therefore, in order to overcome the difficulties of the printed products with dirty and dry defects, it is necessary to change the ink infiltration mode and improve the inherent conditions.
Analysis of Difficulties in Printing on Aluminum Foil
At present, the difficulty in printing aluminum foil on lithographic offset printing presses is mainly due to the two major drawbacks of dirty and dry prints.
1. The printed product has dirty and dryness, which is a surface phenomenon of the internal factors of the ink. The viscosity and dryness of the ink are the same as those of the maternal, and the viscosity and dryness of the ink structure and other properties are compatible with each other and stabilize the municipality's functions. In the printing process, it can exert its adaptability and stability. There will also be adverse effects of the chain reaction.
2. It is considered that adding more desiccant (dry oil) can solve the problem and it is actually wrong. Desiccant application requirements are more complex, not only quantitative factors, species factors and application technology factors, but also the constraints of the workshop's temperature and humidity, speed, medicine, ink, substrates and printing products. It is one of them. Another important factor is that the desiccant application requirements are more complex, not only the quantitative factors, the variety of factors and application technology factors, but also the workshop's temperature and humidity, speed, medicine, ink, substrates and printing products, etc. This is one of the constraints of the conditions. Another important factor is the desiccant's object and role in the ink system. In short, desiccants act on dry vegetable oils, but not on ink oils. Because the dry vegetable oil has the function of oxygen absorption, it can make it and the resin from the liquid state into a solid state during the oxygen course of lectures. The role of the desiccant is to shorten this process. The ink oil has no such conditions, so the desiccant does not work for it, especially aluminum foil printing.
3. The offset printing machine printing aluminum foil products, in the ink, appropriate and appropriate use of some desiccant can play a corresponding effect. However, if the amount is too much, it will “reverse the product” and change to the opposite direction. This will not only achieve the purpose of increasing the fixing speed and the dryness, but also cause the ink to dry quickly, dry, dry, Can't even print. In addition, even if the above phenomenon does not occur, the viscosity of the ink will increase due to the printer stroke. Even if the aluminum foil can pull with the maximum degree of stickiness, the stickiness factor has been increased in this case.
The Properties and Application of Aluminum Foil Printing Aids
In order to solve the difficulties of aluminum foil printing, Zhengzhou Guancheng Printing Material Factory developed an aluminum foil printing auxiliaries and named it "Li-Quan Printing Paste". At present, after the printing factories in different regions have a good trial response, it is proved that it is an excellent additive for solving the difficulties in aluminum foil printing and has practical value, so it is introduced and promoted.
The basic pumping and performance of the “print paste” is mainly designed for lithographic offset printing presses, medium and high-grade resin offset printing inks and printed aluminum foil paper. It is based on the status quo of aluminum foil printing, focusing on the use of inks. It has found out its evolution from the connection of physical phenomena and chemical phenomena. It takes a corresponding measure on the physical properties and chemical properties of the paste to make the paste In the combination of ink formulation, inducement factors are generated, and the ink is induced to change in a favorable direction. In the entire selection of the printer, the following effects are produced during the moment of inking of the aluminum foil paper until it is completely dried:
1. Regulate the rheological adaptability of the ink in the printer stroke, suppress the ink from drying in the medium term, and maintain the benign transfer and transfer of the ink.
2. In the thermal action of the ink, gradually release and volatilize most of the low-viscosity phase "solvent", the ink will gradually thicken and thicken, and the adhesion will be enhanced until it is transferred and embossed on aluminum foil paper. Large stickiness, but can still maintain the clear ink lines, complete edges of the prints, and the flat print and full print quality due to the effect of the paste.
3. Strengthen the force between the ink and aluminum foil surface molecules (secondary binding force) and accelerate the fixing speed of the ink layer.
4. Immediately after the ink layer is firmly fixed, the paste immediately produces an anti-sticking effect.
5. Because the high-speed fixing of the ink layer has created good conditions for the medium-term drying time, it has sufficient physical changes in the film formation period. Therefore, after the layer is completely dried and filmed, there is no anti-sticking and crystallization phenomenon.
In summary, this paste is mainly aimed at the two major difficulties existing in the printing of aluminum foil, namely, the dirty and dry nature of the printed product. In order to effectively resolve these two difficulties, the following points should be taken into account when using full-color printing paste:
1. Paste is mainly applied to lithographic offset printing machines. The type and speed of the printing machine are not limited. It can be applied from the monochrome machine to the six-color offset printing machine. In addition, it can also be used for aluminum foil products printed by letterpress printers and stickers printers.
2. Paste is mainly used for resin-based fast-setting bright offset inks and resin-based fast-drying (fast-fixing) offset inks. In addition, "special ink" can also be used.
3. Due to the quick dry and functional sensitivity of the paste, it is used everywhere.
