Bio-composite skis use linen material

Magine Snowboards and Skis has developed a bio-composite ski, using Biotex linen material provided by Composites Evolution in Chesterfield, UK.

This novel structure puts a wooden core laminated plywood between two layers of Biotex linen, as well as top and bottom facing layers, all of which are bonded together using an epoxy resin system derived from 60% soy materials . The linen used by Composites Evolution is imported from France and Belgium.

Magine hopes to develop a product that embodies its core values of advocating freedom and nature while also highlighting its own characteristics.

Magine has worked with the Canadian Composite Innovation Center in Winnipeg, the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Winnipeg to develop a bio-fiber composite ski. It is through this partnership that Magine was introduced to Composites Evolution at the end of 2011.

Magine ’s Steve Wheeler explained: “Due to the close connection between changes in the earth ’s environment and this sport, the skiing community attaches great importance to sustainable development issues. On a broader scale, our work is subject to global warming Driven by the adverse effects on skiing. In order to make a meager effort in this area, we hope to develop a sustainable snowboard with high quality and retain the various qualities of the snowboard we know and love. . "

Our samples have undergone internal testing and we have developed a structure of linen material against existing products. After six months of development, this new type of ski was put on trial at a ski resort in West Newfoundland. Wheeler said: "The results of the trial slide are very satisfactory. Our team runner Josh Keough didn't like to let go."

He said: "Snowboards made of bio-fibre are excellent in terms of responsiveness, curvature and edge movement. This kind of snowboard is more sustainable than many existing glass fiber and basalt fiber composite snowboards on the market better."

Magine uses a transparent top plate in its products, "giving flax fiber cloth and wood core a more natural texture", creating an original, rustic appearance effect, while promoting sustainable development, it also proves that we have given to customer values Consistent commitment. Magine is expected to provide a series of bio-fiber skis for the 2012-2013 ski season.
