The technology, known as "Insight 100", can scan bottles carried by individuals within seconds to determine if there is a security threat. The airport will allow passengers to carry bottled water, wine, cosmetics, perfumes and similar items through the security check as early as April 2013.

This innovative system is a desktop container scanning device that can be used at security checkpoints in airports, government buildings, and other places where passenger flow is concentrated. This system can scan liquids, powders, and gels in sealed glass or plastic bottles, barrels, and other common containers.
The researchers pointed out that this system has superb detection capabilities, and its false alarm rate has been proven to be less than 5%.
The technology was pioneered by the British Science and Technology Facilities Council. This system is flexible and has a wide range of detection. It can detect hand-held items such as toothpaste and cosmetics, as well as scan containers such as wine, champagne and 3 liter soft drink bottles up to 34 cm.
The "Insight 100" technology has now passed the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Type B standard 2 certification. It can be combined with the current X-ray scanning system or stand-alone B-scanning device to be used as an alarm resolver.
The system uses Spatial Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) technology to obtain fingerprint spectra from threat files that can be accurately or vaguely identified. The technology is easy to upgrade to incorporate new threats into the system.
Because the false alarm rate of the new scanner is very small when it is used at the airport, and it rarely causes delays, its detection ability is almost impeccable, and the safety of passengers is guaranteed to the greatest extent, so it is considered to have "exceeded the standards of the European Civil Aviation Conference".
According to researchers, the special feature of Insight 100 is that it can directly find explosives hidden in non-transparent bottles such as colorful plastic shampoo bottles or green glass red wine bottles. Other systems cannot find threats accurately and reliably, with high false alarm rates or missed real threats.
