Effect of material smoothness on color label printing quality
The smoothness of the material is an important indicator for ensuring print quality, especially in halftone color printing. In the label printing, some layouts have long steps and large contrasts, which have requirements for highlights and shadows. Therefore, materials with poor smoothness often have problems. To ensure the quality of the labels, it is necessary to use smooth materials or patterns. Pre-press processing, such as adding spot colors, shortening the tone, and so on.
For self-adhesive materials, there are several reasons that affect the smoothness of the surface of the material:
(1) Smoothness of the face material; the most important indicator, the key factor affecting the smoothness of the overall material.
(2) The flatness of the bottom paper; the bottom paper is equivalent to a mold, the bottom paper is not good, and the composite material is sure that the surface is not flat and the shape is similar to the bottom paper.
(3) Uniformity of rubber coating, whether it is direct coating or indirect coating when making self-adhesive, the coating layer must be uniform, otherwise there will be problems, such as uneven pressure during printing, graphic hair and so on.
This article uses two cases to illustrate "the effect of material smoothness on color printing" and improvement measures for industry reference.
1The effect of material smoothness on sheetfed offset printing
A printing factory in Beijing uses an offset press to print a supplier's copper-clad paper material. The label is an oil-oil label. The layout is a four-color overprint full-tone printing. The label shape is shown in Figure 1.
The printing factory often appears in the printing process: the same number of materials, two purchases, and the printing effect is inconsistent, the same equipment, the same printing plate, the same ink, the same operator. Therefore, the printing factory often troubles this.
After analysis, it was found that the large-area solid part of the entire label was overprinted in three-color flat screen, eventually forming a blue solid (see Figure 2), and there was a part of progressive dots on each plate. In order to ensure the consistency of the color of the finished label, the pressure and the amount of ink applied to each printing plate must be the same, otherwise the color cast phenomenon will occur, so the label of this type has strict requirements on the technology of equipment, materials and operators. . In order to find the real cause of the printing quality, the author did several experiments.
